This year, ARA has become the first corporate Principal Partner of the Sydney Writers’ Festival; one of Sydney’s iconic annual events. Building on ARA’s ongoing support as a Major Sponsor since 2016, and ARA’s contribution to the Festival’s ‘Russ the Story Bus’ initiative, ARA has committed to a five-year Principal Partner Sponsorship of the Festival.
Now in its 21st year, the Sydney Writers’ Festival is a staple of Sydney’s cultural calendar. The week-long event offers in-depth conversation with some of the biggest names in literature. With over 400 events to chose from, the Festival has attracted audiences in excess of 100,000 in recent years. This year, the theme of Power will be explored by over 400 Australian and 60 international writers, academics and public figures. “Our guests will examine power and its adjacent qualities, and its relationship to sex, money, politics, identity, and the state of the world”, Artistic Director Michaela McGuire said of the 2018 program.
The Sydney Writers’ Festival aims to be accessible to a wide range of audiences and relies on the support of individual community members, corporate sponsorship and government support in order to do so. More than 25% of the Sydney Writers’ Festival program is free. ARA is continually broadening the scope of our positive impact on society, and as a forward-thinking and community-minded company we are proud to support the Sydney Writers’ Festival.
ARA’s participation and partnership with the Sydney Writers’ Festival represents a unique opportunity for meaningful exposure and engagement within the wider community. This year we have chosen to sponsor talks held by distinguished writers and guests Washington post investigative reporter Amy Goldstein, the hugely popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney, Australian Chiildren’s Laureate Morris Gleitzman, revered Australian novelist Helen Garner and Pulitzer Prize winning Junot Díaz.
From Monday 30th April to Sunday 6 May, hundreds of talks, panels and performances will be held at the new Festival Hub (Carriageworks and The Seymour Centre), and in venues across Greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains. It will also be accessible via the national ‘Live & Local’ streaming program.
