ARA’s support of literature, stories, and ideas
There are many studies of management and organisations that conclude a business performs better if it takes its responsibility to the communities in which it operates seriously. Accepting that ARA is a vibrant member of the larger community where we work, is an inherent part of the culture that has evolved within ARA during the past twenty-two years. We have made many significant commitments to make the world around us a better place with a major focus on the arts and literature. Two such commitments are our Principal Partnerships of both the Sydney Writers’ Festival and the Melbourne Writers Festival.
The Sydney Writers’ Festival 2023
ARA is the Principal Partner of the Sydney Writers’ Festival. The Sydney Writers’ Festival brings together writers from various forms and backgrounds, including the best contemporary novelists, screenwriters, musicians, and writers of cutting-edge nonfiction. With the finest writing and storytelling at its core, our programming is driven by the ideas and issues that animate all types of literature.
More than 400 writers take part in over 150 conversations, debates, performances, and panel discussions. One-third of our events are free, and our Live & Local streaming program brings our Festival to life in regional libraries and community centres right across the country.
ARA’s support further expands to foster a deeper engagement with books and reading through the SWF outreach program, Russ the Story Bus. This initiative reaches over 8000 students from disadvantaged areas, giving them the chance to hear from an author in their school, and take a book home to keep.
Sunday, the 28th of May, is the final day of this year’s Festival. It is also Family Day. There are many children’s book authors and illustrators.

The Melbourne Writers Festival
ARA is the Principal Partner of the Melbourne Writers Festival. The Melbourne Writers Festival has more than 150 events with hundreds of authors. The Festival brings together tens of thousands people who have a love of literature. The Melbourne Writers Festival will be held between the 4th-7th of May 2023.
